The College offers term time travel passes to 16-18yr old students who have a household income of less than £35,000 and live more than 1.5 miles (shortest walking distance away) from the College. The majority of the passes issued through the Financial Assistance Packages is a Merseytravel Solo covering Area C. However, there are a range of passes which we will consider should your address be outside of Area C which will permit travel across a variety of modes including buses, trains and even ferries. To continue to receive support in terms 2 and 3 you have to maintain an attendance figure of 90% or above throughout the year. (Subject to funding being available).
Ooops! – Don’t forget to supply us with 2 x passport photographs. One for the pass and a spare just in case you lose your pass and need a replacement one.
Students who received Free School Meals (FSM) will have their entitlement extended.
To be eligible for Further Education Free Meals (FEFM), students must be aged 16-18 on 31st August 2014. For the purposes of eligibility for FEFM students must be in receipt of, or have parent or have a guardian who are in receipt of the one or more of the following benefits:
A student is only eligible to receive a free meal when they, or a parent/guardian on their behalf, have made a successful application to the college.
Please note if you do not meet this criteria you can still apply for help with the cost of meals however the level of support may differ.
The College provides students with a Meal Deal per day of attendance in the College eating outlets. You can select to use the Meal Deal for either breakfast, lunch or an evening meal. If your application is successful the funds will be pre-loaded onto your college ID card… so it’s important to always have your ID card with you!
Every student at Hugh Baird College is entitled to a free breakfast of either porridge or toast, with orange juice, in any of the College Refectories between 8:00am and 9:30am. So why not arrive at College early and boost your brain power?
Are you 19+ years of age and a parent? Don’t let childcare issues put you off coming to College, as part of our financial support packages we will cover 100% of the costs of childcare for one dependent child (not exceeding £120 per week against timetabled attendance). All you need to do is choose a childcare facility you trust and check that they’re Ofsted registered. If you are successful with your application for financial assistance we’ll pay the money directly into the childcare provider’s bank account… simple!
If you are experiencing hardship you can appeal to the Student Services Manager who may be able to allocate some additional financial support. The maximum support that can be issued from the Additional Support Fund is £150. Use the online booking system to make an appointment with a member of the Retention & Progression Team to discuss additional support before making an appeal.
