Hugh Baird College

Health & Wellbeing

The College has achieved the Healthy College Award, the Navajo Award, and we are Stonewall School Champions. The College has a comprehensive Health & Wellbeing and Enrichment Programme which is supported by a number of external agencies across the country, working in partnership with the College’s Health & Wellbeing Co-ordinator.

They work to local and national campaigns to raise awareness on issues that affect young people, and offer them access to support. Their programme is underpinned by the 5 Ways to Wellbeing: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning, Give.

They work to a calendar of events which includes:

  • Events such as Freshers’ Fayre and Diversity Day
  • Awareness Workshops such as Healthy Relationships, Diversity, Anti-bullying, Internet and Social Media Safety, Hate Crime, Knife Crime, HIV Awareness and Community Safety
  • A 5-day, 9 to 5 Drop-in Service in The POD to discuss issues in a safe and confidential space

Students accessing the Health & Wellbeing and Enrichment Programme, also have access to support with:

  • Healthy Cooking and Eating
  • Weight Management
  • Sexual Health and C-Card registration/pick-up
  • Self-Harm and Suicide
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Substance Misuse
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Mental and Emotional Wellness
  • Free Citizen Cards
