National Day of the Girl

Posted 11th January 2018.

National day of the girl is on 11th October, this day has been called by the United Nations to support with gender inequalities such as unfair access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and unfree child marriage. These may not be things that you have every experience personally. We live in a democratic society where girls and women are treated equally and have equal rights.  However there are countries around the world where gender inequality is still an issue. Take a look at the following fact to see how prevalent gender inequality is:

  • More than 62 million girls around the world have no access to education
  • Worldwide and collectively, girls ages 5 to 14 spend more than 160 million hours more on household chores than boys of the same age do
  • Globally, one in four girls are married before age 18

These are shocking statistics, if this cause motivates you to promote change, watch and share the following video which celebrates girls around the world and highlights the following goals to be achieved by 2030:

  • End all forms of violence against girls
  • Put all girls in school
  • End the aids epidemic
  • End child marriage
