Hugh Baird College is supporting Dyslexia Awareness Week. It is an annual event aimed at increasing the understanding of dyslexia.
There are many answers to this question as dyslexia can impact on individuals in different ways. It is estimated that 1 in 10 people may have dyslexia. Dyslexia occurs in people from all backgrounds and abilities and varies from person to person.
Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling. Other difficulties individuals may face are poor short-term memory, maths difficulties and poor organisational skills. (British Dyslexia Association & Rose Review, 2009) However, many individuals who experience dyslexia can have strengths and abilities in other areas.
