Facilities

Borrowing

FE Learners and staff may borrow up to 8 items. HE Learners may borrow up to 15 items. Please take your books to the self-issue machines to borrow and return items. You can also renew and check your library account on the self-issue machines.

Book return boxes are located on the ground floor of the Port Academy Liverpool, Balliol and University Centre.

  • Ordinary loans – These books form the bulk of the book stock and can be borrowed for 3 weeks. They can be renewed up to 3 times.
  • 7 Day loans – These books have a purple ‘7 day loan’ sticker on their spines. These can only be borrowed for 7 days and cannot be renewed.
  • Renewing – Only ordinary loan books may be renewed if they are not reserved by anyone else. Please bring the books in, or phone the library, giving your College ID number, the book details and the date due back. These can also be renewed on the self-issue machines. They can be renewed up to 3 times.

Inclusive Access

The libraries promote inclusive access to learning resources. Specific assistive software e.g. Read and Write Gold, SuperNova, Texthelp and Inspiration are also available in the libraries. Staff will also assist in accessing books and magazines from the shelves.

Reservations

Items which are on loan, may be reserved. Please fill in a reservation card from the issue desk. The staff will let you know when the item is ready for you to collect.

Rules and Regulations

The libraries are intended for research and learning. To promote an environment in which all learners feel comfortable and are able to learn it is important that all students behave appropriately.

This means:

  • Complying with the student Code of Conduct
  • Working quietly so as not to disturb other learners
  • Observing the College’s Equal & Diversity Policy at all times
  • Using the computers in accordance with the Network User Agreement and Social Media Policy
  • Treating property including books, equipment and furniture with respect at all times
  • Not consuming food in the library
  • Only screw-topped bottled drinks are allowed in the library
  • Putting litter in the bins and paper in the recycle bins provided
  • Switching your mobile phone to silent and if needing to talk then please leave the library

Staff implementing this code and other college policies must be treated with courtesy and respect at all times. Students who breach this code may be asked to leave the library.
